Sony's PS5 Pro Surpasses Pre-Orders as Premium Offering Aims for Dedicated Gamers
Nov-14-2024
At a recent conference following an earnings announcement, discussions surrounding the PlayStation 5 Pro were highlighted by a Sony Group executive. There have been insights into the console's pre-order performance and its market positioning.
Throughout the conversation, it was observed that the PS5 Pro is intended as a premium offering aimed at dedicated gamers. The executive mentioned that it does not come with a broad sales strategy from the outset. However, pre-order numbers are reportedly surpassing those of the PS4 Pro for the same time frame.
Furthermore, it was emphasized that the slightly elevated price of the PS5 Pro does not seem to hinder its sales projections. The console, released recently, retails for $699.99 / £699.99, a cost that generated some initial concern about its potential impact on sales volume.
Distinct from the standard PS5, the PS5 Pro does not feature a disc reader or a vertical stand in the base package, meaning buyers must purchase these accessories separately, leading to an increased total cost for customers.
In terms of overall PS5 sales, which includes the new Pro model, the company remains optimistic about achieving its goal of selling 18 million units by fiscal year-end. This success has been realized without applying a permanent price reduction, contrasting the approach taken with the PS4.
In addition, the developers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have remarked that the version optimized for PS5 Pro is the ideal iteration of the game. Sony is also exploring innovations, as evidenced by a recent patent for a PlayStation controller featuring a rewind button, potentially indicating new functionalities for future consoles or controllers.
