Glen Schofield Reveals Unused Dead Space 4 Concept Pitching Insights After EA's Decision

Glen Schofield recently pitched the Dead Space 4 concept to EA, but they declined the proposal.

Last year marked a noteworthy intersection in the gaming world with the launch of Dead Space Remake alongside The Callisto Protocol, a project led by Glen Schofield, the visionary behind the creation of Dead Space, at Striking Distance. Although these games appeared superficially similar, they varied significantly in their depth and execution. Unfortunately, The Callisto Protocol did not meet sales expectations, prompting Striking Distance to implement significant layoffs, which included Schofield.

In a recent conversation on the Dan Allen Gaming channel, Schofield reunited with his former colleagues, Bret Robbins, the creative director of 2008's Dead Space, and Christopher Stone, who worked as the animation director. During this discussion, they revealed that they had a promising concept for Dead Space 4; however, EA "respectfully" decided not to pursue the idea.

They shared, "We didn't venture too deeply into it; they simply let us know that they weren't interested at the moment. We thanked them for their feedback and, thus, decided not to press further, recognizing that they have their own metrics and priorities to manage."

Despite not moving forward, the trio remains optimistic about the possibility in the future. "The industry's current climate is quite unusual," Stone remarked. "There is a significant reluctance to take risks, so one must remain cautious about their words. Perhaps one day, we would all love to return to this project."

In agreement, Schofield added, "We do have some concepts in mind."
